Spring is almost here!!!

I thought this time around it would be different.  But it really wasn’t.  Last year I fell victim to a winter slump that lasted for all of February and March.  This year, I again fell victim to that winter slump and am just now working my way out of it.  It’s so hard to be motivated to get on the treadmill and run after a while.  And I don’t feel comfortable running on our road in the winter.  It’s just too busy, too narrow, and too fast.  I know I could drive somewhere else and run there, but I’m lazy and I don’t want to.

But now that it’s warming up, the snow is melting, and we’ve sprung forward, things are looking better.

I went for a nice 6 miler with Chelsea today and plan on doing a fun 10 miler outside in the sunny 50 degree weather tomorrow.  It’s going to be awesome!  I look forward to my runs so much more when I can do them outside.  I actually ran with Chelsea over to the new house today to show her where we will be living shortly.  I already LOVE running in our soon-to-be neighborhood.

As for the house – we have a tentative closing date of April 1st, so we’re only 17 days away from becoming homeowners!!!

That’s all for now.  This was just a quick update because my mom has been bugging me to write something.  🙂

I used to have good taste in music.  I promise.

Since I started marathoning, my taste in music has morphed into that of a 13 year old girl.  My formerly most frequented playlist includes people like Donavan Frankenreiter, Jack Johnson, Tristan Prettyman, Barenaked Ladies, Jason Mraz, Lily Allen, Kate Nash, and Ingrid Michaelson.

That playlist is still there, and I still listen to it often.  But I also find myself listening to a heck of a lot of Britney Spears, Pitbull, Enrique Iglesias, Taio Cruz, Rihana, Beyonce, and so on.  I just spent a good chunk of my weekend up at my old high school volunteering at a big community service dance.  While all the high school kids were in the gym dancing to their most recent teeny-bopper songs, I was rocking out in the hallway to those same songs and saying “did they steal my iPod???” while surrounded by many of their parents who were probably thinking I was nuts.

Oh well.  To each their own.  It’s good to run to!  (And perhaps rock out in the car to when no one’s looking…)

I do promise there has never been and never will be any Justin Bieber on there though.  That’s one I can stick to.

Oh man, I better not go liking that crap now.

Anyway, training has been going well.  I’ve been dealing with obnoxious recurring cramps in my right calf and I got so sick of it that yesterday I picked up a pair of compression sleeves.  I used them for the first time on an 8 miler last night and they were great!  I’m already a big fan.  I can’t wait for my 10 miler today.

I’ve been consistently keeping my pace well below 10:00/mile.  For last night’s 8 miler I did it at a 9:42/mile pace, which I was pretty happy with.  I also did some shorter 4 milers in the 9:10-9:20/mile range last week.  Compared to a lot of people, that isn’t all that fast.  But I’ve come a long way from where I was a year ago, and I’m pretty proud of that.

As for the house goings-on, WE ARE SO CLOSE!!!  We’ve done absolutely everything that we need to do and all we are waiting for is a closing date.  We’re hoping to close sometime during the week of March 14th, so only a week to a week and a half from now.  I am SO ANTSY!  It’s making me absolutely nuts.  So keep your fingers crossed that we’ll get our closing date early this week.  That way I can stop obsessing about it and just start packing up our apartment!
